Bituminous varnish R is used mainly for repair of cardboard resinous and metal sheet coverings, for shingling and isolation works, as preliminary hydroisolating coat and protective coat of structures and other steel or cast iron objects against corrosion. The coats of bituminous varnish R are resistent to climatic influences and humidity. It is necessary to mix perfectly the varnish before application or if necessary to dilute with white spirit. It is applied while cold with a paintbrush or shinglingbrush. The product is not designed for coating of surfaces that are in content with potable water or edibles. The average consumption is depending on the kind and scope of application and is
0,2 – 0,5 kg/m² of coated surface.

General characteristics:

   The bituminous varnish R is produced dissolving a suitable kind of bitumen in an organic solvent with an additive that enhances adhesive properties and resistance to climatic influences. It is a black liquid of medium viscosity without contents of mechanical impurities and water. The product is insoluble in water. According to STN
65 0201 is bituminous varnish R a combustible of the II class of fire hazard.

Occupational safety and health

   The bituminous varnish R is from the standpoint of direct effect upon human organism classified among substances of average biological activity (II. B). It is necessary during handling and work to use protective means (twill clothing, working footwear, suitable gloves, protective glasses or shield). In the event of skin contact to wash-off affected place with water and soap and treat with reparative skin cream. It is not acceptable to wash-off skin with crude-oil products or solvents (naphtha, toluene, acetone, etc.).

Packages and storage

   Bituminous varnish R is supplied in 15 or 10 kg packages or in packages according to the customers requirements. It is stored in closed packages at sites protected against climatic influence, mainly rain, dust, sunlight and direct effect of heating elements. It may be stored at temperature below the freezing point. In stores, it is forbiden, to handle open fire, the product contains organic solvents of the II class of fire hazard. The storage life in original packages is 1 year from the filling date at the producer, when the given conditions are observed.
