N - alkanes are clear colourless liquids of hydrocarbon nature. Two grades are produced: light alkanes - fraction C10 - C13 and heavy alkanes - fraction C14 - C18. The light n-alkanes have the following characteristics: flash point min. +72 °C, boiling point 190 °C and the lower explosion limit 0,6% vol.. They are classified into the class II A of explosion hazard. In accordance with the standard STN 65 0201 they are classified into the class III of dangerous materials. The heavy n - alkanes have the following characteristics: fash point 100 °C, boiling point 238 °C and lower explosion limit 0,5% vol.. They are classified into the class II A of explosion hazard. In accordance with standard STN 65 0201 they are classified into the class IV dangerous materials.
Enterprise standard PN 25 - 454 - 93
The n - alkanes are determined primary for further chemical processing as raw materials for production of normal olefins, alcohols, acids, tensides, plasticizers for plastics, lubrication additives, synthetic oils and the like. They may be applied as component of degreasing and cleaning media.
N - alkanes are non-toxic substances. They are ranged into the group of bilogical active matters withregard to the effect on human organism. At work and handling the products it is necessary to use appropriate personal protective equipment /rubber gloves, goggles, protective clothing and the like). The waste and residual product to adsorb on porous material (for instance perlite) and to incinerate. At work is forbidden to eat and to drink or to smoke. To observe the principlex and rules of hygiene and occupational safety and health measures valid when handling and working with crude oil products.
Slovnaft VÚRUP, joint-stock company is supplyinf n - alkanes in drums, containers or tank cars. To store the products in well closed containers in storage areas protected from weather effects at temperatures from -10 ° C to +30 ° C (alkanes C10 - C13) and from +10 ° C to +30 ° C (alkanes C14 - C18).
