The change of raw material quality (connected with the recovery of paraffinic high-sulphur content petroleum) introduced to researcher series of problems in relation with the re-vamp of the existing technologies for the new feedstocks. The approach of the research activities conditioned the characteristics of the processed petroleum and hydrocarbon gases to fuels, lubricating oils, greases, plastics, bitumen and organic chemicals.

   Important are the results of research problems that prepared the construction of petrochemistry in Czechoslovakia and the Works in the field of zeolites synthesis and catalyst applications. The research results were implemented not only in Slovnaft, but in other refineries in Czechoslovakia and other foreign countries.

   The publishing activity of the institute and the co-operation with leading foreign research centres is representing also an important activity. More than 40. Years the company is publishing the journal Ropa a Uhlie (Petroleum and Coal); the last 3 years in English, as well. In co-operation it organises professional events with foreign participants, notably the International Petroleum Conference, colloquia of catalytic reforming and petrols or solvents. The company is maintaining the high standard of research results, that comply with international competition.
